Executive Summary, Mission, and Objectives
The mission of The Pantry is to reduce food insecurity in and empower residents of Mid-Missouri. We will achieve this by providing our guests with ingredients for complete meals along with easy to follow recommendations to help achieve self-sufficiency. It is vital to our organization that all members of our community are welcome; therefore we have no income, identification, or geographic requirements.
The Pantry is an independent, tax-exempt, not-for-profit food pantry that serves all of Mid-Missouri. The Pantry's goal is to alleviate hunger in Mid-Missouri by providing food and teaching skills that will empower our guests to increase self-sufficiency. We will achieve this by soliciting, collecting, and packaging food for distribution as well as providing nutrition, meal planning, grocery shopping, and culinary educational opportunities to serve our target population. The Pantry strives to be a truly community supported organization by partnering with local congregations, organizations, businesses, and individuals.
Fundraising Strategy
The Pantry has ongoing fundraising through PayPal links on our website and Facebook page to collect donations to fulfill our mission, specifically focusing on people who will schedule monthly donations. We also strive to have a minimum of one fundraising event per month, paying attention to the need to rotate targets of our events.
The following are The Pantry's current fundraising and food collection programs:
Food Collection
Participating retailers, wholesalers, and processors will donate food items. These contributors will contribute donations on a monthly basis. Currently, we have two participating retailers.
Charitable Donation/Grants
We received two grants of $500 from Walmart in 2016 & 2017. We received another grant from Walmart in 2018 for $ 1,000. And recently, we received a $ 1000 grant in 2019 from Sam's Club. We will continue to apply for other grants we are eligible to receive.
Community Church Pledges
We currently have monthly pledged donations of $100.
Fill the Bucket
The Pantry will run a fundraiser through local banks, credit unions, and businesses once per year. Small containers will sit at the counter of each teller.
Harvesting
In 2019 we were given many donations from local farmers, including President Woolfolk of Lincoln University & The College of Agriculture, Environmental, and Human Sciences. We also received a large donation of farm fresh eggs when they were not able to be utilized by a restaurant due to flooding.
Restaurant Donation Nights
We have had nights at Colton’s Steakhouse’s program. And look forward to partnering with many others in the future.
Facebook Pledge Requests
We will coordinate individuals who will pledge to donate specific food items each month with a value of approximately $10.
The Church of Latter Day Saints Donation
The Jefferson City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will make a yearly donation of commodities from their warehouse.
Tea Party
We will have one to two tea parties hosted and organized by an individual (BK).
Other Individual Fundraisers
Hosted and organized by an individual or group (eg Newcomers, Zonta, Rotary)
Management Summary
The Pantry's management team will consist of a board of directors (with a minimum of four members) and contributing members. All positions are volunteer positions.
Each board member will be responsible for recruiting contributing members to successfully carry out their assigned tasks with the goal of bringing as many people into the organization as possible.
Financial Plan
The Pantry is funded from a variety of community sources. We will continue to research available grants so long as they do not require us to alter our mission statement. The board of directors will be responsible for reviewing the program expenditures and making adjustments to assure program solvency.
